Patchwork is a millennia-old technique that ultimately makes material remnants useful. Previously known rather from the field of textile processing, today a wide variety of materials are processed in patchwork design. Certainly, today is often the creative aspect in the foreground and less the pure remnant utilization....
And yet, at the beginning of the glass picture presented here were remnants - glass cuttings, high quality Mottlegläser of the smelter Uroboros Glass from Portland, USA. ( Mottlegläser = Germanized from ring mottle, ring-shaped speckles in the glass ).
After the rough design of this work was found, I filled the free areas with other purposefully selected Youghiogheny ( Uro by Yough ) Mottlegläsern. In addition to an extensive standard range, the Youghiogheny Glass factory also produces a line of products called Uncat ( uncategorized = uncategorized ). These are often a very interesting addition to the standard range - sometimes quite unusual color combinations, which are of course well suited for patchwork. Especially when the individual glass pieces - as shown here in the picture - are processed as larger pieces, an interesting color gradient in each individual piece is of great importance.
